Colorado Gray Wolf Reintroduction Initiative 79: Discussion and Views
Colorado, a state that is revered for its natural beauty, abundance of wildlife and opportunities for both sportsman and recreationalists alike, currently serves as a battleground for opposing views on wolf reintroduction efforts. In April of this year, a ballot measure proposal (also known as Initiative 79) was submitted that asks voters to require the Colorado Wildlife Commission to craft a plan to forcefully reintroduce gray wolves. Should the state approve Initiative 79 language, petitioners would then need to secure 200,000 signatures to put the measure on 2020 election tickets.
Outdoor Channel, a Colorado-based media company that caters to hunting, fishing and outdoor enthusiasts, recently brought outdoor industry leaders together for a Facebook LIVE to discuss the issue in detail. Panelists included Colorado resident and hunting guide Fred Eichler, the host of Skull Bound, Jana Waller, Outdoor Sportsman Group Editor Skip Knowles and Pure Hunting host Willy Schmidt. Watch the entire LIVE as Outdoor Channel’s Cam Pauli fields them numerous questions regarding Initiative 79 and how the proposal would affect wildlife, sportsmen’s interests and the livelihoods of those living in rural Colorado.
